A Candidate with a Purpose

Overture Walker is an experienced, proven leader who helped restore the public trust in Richland County government, strengthen council relationships and usher in unparalleled economic growth in the county.

Walker served as council chair during two of his nearly four years on the council, during which the county made great strides. Richland County has a Triple-A credit rating and has not raised general fund taxes in six years. Last year is  one of the county’s best in history in terms of economic development, highlighted by Scout Motors’ decision to  build a $2 billion, 4,000-employee plant in the county.

During his time on County Council, Walker – a small business owner and former municipal judge – sat on various committees. After careful consideration, he entered the Senate District 22 Democratic primary. In addition to his desire to ensure state government works for all South Carolinians, Walker earnestly wants to restore political balance to the General Assembly by helping Democrats gain more elected seats.

“Democrats must feel uncomfortable about being in a minority with no impact. We can’t be satisfied with the imbalance that now exists,” Walker said. “We must increase the number of elected Democrats to ensure the people we represent have a strong voice when it comes to legislation and deliberation.”

“We must be vocal, we must be vigilant and we must be uncompromising in representing the people we serve and demanding a consistent, impactful seat at the table,” Walker said. “My goal is to ensure that no one party can dictate the direction of our state without fair representation from all its people.”

“I have loved my time on Richland County Council. The opportunity to serve my home county has been amazing and we have gotten much done. I ran for County Council to help restore public confidence in county government and make it more effective in delivering services and conducting the people’s business,” Walker said. “I firmly believe the county now operates more openly and effectively.”
